We Welcome the Ceasefire, but the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Is Not Fully Resolved: Heiko Maas
The European structure for the protection of human rights must prepare for future challenges. This was stated by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.
He noted that the coronavirus pandemic has shown that work on the protection of human rights must always align with changing conditions. “We must prepare our European framework for the protection of human rights for future challenges,” he said.
Maas called on EU member states to recognize the decisions made by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). “Very often, these rulings are implemented inadequately or not at all,” Maas emphasized.
The German Foreign Minister also recalled the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. “We welcome the ceasefire, but the conflict is not resolved this way. On this occasion, we call on the parties to work towards a long-term political solution within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group,” he stated.
