We Agreed to Blow Up the Statue of Spartacus: Karren Sargsyan

Karren Sargsyan, the nephew of Vazgen Sargsyan, wrote on his Facebook page: “Dear people, I share your pain: both I and my family have reached out to many, asking for help. We are not in power, neither in Armenia nor in Artsakh; we are not the Ministers of Defense or Culture, so we cannot move the statue of the Spartacus. In the case of necessity, we agreed to blow it up. Moreover, I even requested to blow it up without moving it, but no one listened and no one helped.

Dear people, why do you think we haven't thought about this? But the authorities of Armenia and Artsakh should have helped. They knew what would happen when they surrendered; at least they should have blown it up or made arrangements to move it before surrendering. If you know another way, please tell me, help us move it. I am ready for everything; even before handing over Shushi, I said that if you feel that the Azeris are entering Shushi, blow up the statue so that our hero, the Spartacus who liberated Artsakh, does not end up in the hands of the Azeris along with numerous brave Armenian soldiers.

Dear people, it is not just words that should express the pain accumulated within me, as well as that of Spartacus, and for every inch of land in Artsakh fought for by countless heroes. I bow before the graves of all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland in the 90s, in the April War, and in this recent war. The traitors who surrendered liberated Artsakh will be punished both in this life and in the afterlife.”
