We Want the Armenia-Iran Railroad to Operate via Nakhchivan, says Pashinyan

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, notes that there are ideas regarding the issues to be discussed during upcoming negotiations following the declaration of a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Pashinyan made this statement in an interview with Public Television. "What do we want? We want, for example, the Armenia-Iran railroad to operate through Nakhchivan. We are talking about unblocking transportation infrastructure," said Pashinyan.

When asked whether this also pertains to Turkey and the reopening of borders, Pashinyan replied, "No. Because Turkey is not part of this agreement. We want to have not just one route to Russia, but several possible routes. And if, for example, as a result of these negotiations we can achieve our goals, just imagine what a transformative change it would make for Armenia if, eventually, the railroad becomes a real factor in our country that connects us to the Persian Gulf and Russia. These are also goals that can be realized through this document, though they may or may not be achieved," he elaborated.

Regarding whether there is a preliminary agreement since these points were mentioned in the ceasefire declaration, the Prime Minister stated, "Not a preliminary agreement, but an understanding. If it's formulated, then there is an understanding. But it is clearly a matter for negotiations and the subject of negotiations that need to take place."
