Turkey Plans to Construct Railway to Nakhchivan, Adil Karaismailoglu Says
Turkey intends to build a railway to Nakhchivan against the backdrop of recent events in the Caucasus, announced Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“In light of recent developments in the Caucasus, we plan to construct a railway to Nakhchivan. Preliminary studies will be completed soon,” Anadolu Agency quotes Karaismailoglu.
On November 11, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that Ankara and Moscow had signed a memorandum regarding a ceasefire monitoring center in Nagorno-Karabakh, and that they would participate in a “joint peacekeeping mission.” Earlier, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov mentioned that Moscow and Ankara would work through a monitoring center in Azerbaijani territory, stating that “there was no talk of joint peacekeeping forces.”
