“History teaches us nothing. It is a pity that today’s result, achieved at the cost of blood,” says Sergey Lavrov on the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh

The Russian Federation is interested in ensuring that the situation is calm everywhere in the world, especially near Russia’s borders, and that there are no "smoldering" conflicts. This was stated today, November 12, by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a media briefing.

"It is an obvious lie to claim that Russia is more interested than anyone else in the unresolved conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh and that it has dragged its feet on a resolution for so many years," Lavrov emphasized, noting that in reality, Russia has made every effort for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

"Russia was a leader in promoting the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as demonstrated by the well-known Kazan document, which would have allowed achieving the same results as today, but without bloodshed," said the Russian Foreign Minister.

According to him, the document could not be implemented, after which Russia proposed a two-stage option for resolving the conflict, which the conflicting parties initially accepted with enthusiasm, but later expressed doubts about the territories to be surrendered, security guarantees, and other issues.

"This also failed and was put aside for an indefinite period not due to our fault, so we do not lack good intentions and proposals. Now, unfortunately, through the use of force and at the cost of casualties on both sides, we have nevertheless arrived at the resolution proposed by Russia," Lavrov noted, emphasizing that history teaches us nothing.

"It is still a pity that today’s result, which was achieved at the cost of blood, could have been attained without blood," he added.
