Russian Armed Forces' Forward Units Establish Control Over Lachin Corridor – Sergey Rudskoy

Armenia and Azerbaijan have ceased military operations in the territory of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the armed forces of both countries have halted their positions along the lines they occupied. General-Colonel Sergey Rudskoy, head of the Main Operational Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, announced this at a press conference, the information of which was published on the official website of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“The peacekeeping forces are equipped with the most modern weapons, military, and special equipment, including BTR-82A armored vehicles, ‘Tigr’ and ‘Taifun’ armored vehicles, as well as all necessary supplies. To monitor the implementation of agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan, sixteen observation posts are planned to be established in the 'North' and 'South' responsibility areas. They will be located along the contact line of the parties in Nagorno-Karabakh and the Lachin corridor,” Rudskoy stated, presenting the process of deploying peacekeepers in the conflict zone.

“On the morning of November 10 of this year, the transfer of the peacekeeping contingent to Armenia began from Ulyanovsk airport using military transport aircraft Il-76 and An-124. During the day, 27 flights were conducted by the aircraft. A total of 414 servicemen, 54 units of automotive and special equipment, 8 helicopters, and two drone systems were transferred... The National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation has organized cooperation with relevant ministries and departments, which has allowed for the rapid organization of the peacekeeping contingent’s transfer to the conflict zone.

Currently, the forward units of the Russian Armed Forces' group have established control over the Lachin corridor and a section of the Lachin road, with temporary observation posts set up near the Lisogorsky State Agricultural Farm. Units of the first peacekeeping battalion of the 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade have completed a 300-kilometer march after unloading at the ‘Erebuni’ airport and are concluding their concentration in the area of the town of Goris. Starting November 12 of this year, observation posts are planned to be deployed in the 'South' responsibility area, where active military operations were taking place just two days ago.

Continuous cooperation has been established with the general staffs of the Azerbaijani and Armenian armed forces to carry out peacekeeping missions, prevent possible incidents, and ensure the safety of Russian soldiers. Direct communication lines have been created. Joint work has been organized with the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides to clarify the parameters of the peacekeeping operation. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has deployed a command group on the ground, which is conducting round-the-clock monitoring of the situation. The General Staff has outlined all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Russian servicemen.

“The personnel of the peacekeeping contingent understand the full responsibility of their assigned tasks and are ready to implement them in accordance with the agreements reached,” Rudskoy stated.
