Human Rights Defender Summarizes Results of Today's Visits to Police and National Security Service
This morning, both the Human Rights Defender personally and the rapid response teams of the Defender's office carried out visits to the Police and the National Security Service in connection with the detainment of individuals from Freedom Square in Yerevan. The Defender's efforts in these matters are ongoing.
The application of laws regarding the state of emergency and the requirements of government decisions by law enforcement agencies are under the direct scrutiny of the Human Rights Defender. Additionally, it is essential to strictly adhere to the procedures for detaining individuals and ensuring the constitutional requirements for the protection of personal rights.
The clarifications from law enforcement agencies have been acknowledged, indicating that criminal proceedings have been initiated under Articles 225.1 and 307.1 of the Criminal Code, which correspond to organizing and conducting gatherings in violation of the legally established order, as well as violating measures and temporary restrictions during the legal regime of martial law.
The Human Rights Defender specifically notes that these criminal proceedings, as well as the issues related to the protection of the rights of specific individuals involved in these proceedings, are under his direct attention.
Consultations held yesterday and today between the Human Rights Defender and the Minister of Defense, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, and leaders of law enforcement agencies have also taken place.
It is evident that in these fateful days, our country requires solidarity and unity. Every step we take during these days must be aimed at ensuring stability in the country and strengthening statehood, derived from the goal of protecting the lives and health of our heroic soldiers. The Human Rights Defender continues to exercise his powers to their maximum capabilities, treating all issues equally.
