Call for Caution to Avoid Negative Legal Consequences: Prosecutor's Office on Organizing Demonstrations

In recent days, certain political forces and social groups have disseminated statements through mass media and social networks regarding the organization and holding of gatherings. This was announced by the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia.

It is clarified that according to point 8 of the appendix to the decision No. 1586-N of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated September 27, 2020, organizing and holding gatherings and strikes throughout the territory of the Republic of Armenia is prohibited.

It is also explained that according to point 10 of Article 182.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Armenia, organizing, holding, and participating in strikes and gatherings during a state of emergency results in a fine ranging from four hundred to seven hundred times the minimum wage.

Additionally, according to Article 307.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, a punishment of up to 5 years of imprisonment is envisaged for violating the measures and temporary restrictions established during a state of emergency, including organizing, holding, and participating in strikes and gatherings during the state of emergency, if it recklessly causes the death of a person or other serious consequences.

Therefore, to avoid negative legal consequences, we call for caution and urge not to violate the restrictions arising from the legal regime of the state of emergency and refrain from organizing, holding, or participating in gatherings that are directly prohibited during this period.
