No discussions have taken place with me, unfortunately. I am initiating political consultations immediately. Armen Sarkissian
The President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, has issued a statement indicating that he is initiating political consultations aimed at coordinating solutions derived from our agenda for the protection of national interests in the shortest possible time.
The full statement of the President is as follows:
“I learned from the media that a statement has been signed with the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan regarding the cessation of the Nagorno-Karabakh war. I have also learned from the media about the conditions for the cessation of hostilities.
As the President of the Republic, unfortunately, there have been no consultations or discussions with me regarding this document, and I have not participated in any negotiations.
The resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a matter of national significance and importance. Any step, action, or decision made concerning the vital security interests and rights of Armenia, Artsakh, and the entire Armenian people, especially the signing of any document, must be the subject of comprehensive consultations and discussions.
I emphasize that the fate of Artsakh, and therefore of the Armenian people, can be solved only by taking into account our national interests and solely on the basis of national consensus.
Considering the deep concerns of the large masses of the people arising from the current situation, I am initiating political consultations immediately to coordinate solutions deriving from our agenda for the protection of national interests in the shortest time possible.
As the President of the Republic, I consider the formation of national unity at this crucial time for national preservation to be my immediate mission. I hope that within ten days we will succeed in forming such unity, in which case I will consider that I have utilized the opportunities to serve my homeland.”
