If Necessary, the Authorities Will Leave, But Attempts at a Coup Will Be Stopped Firmly - Tigran Avinyan
Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Avinyan emphasizes that the authorities will firmly halt any attempts at a coup, but stresses that if necessary, the current government will leave and a new government will be elected.
“I would like to remind you that in the 1990s, when there were political stirrings and turmoil in Azerbaijan, the Armenian army effectively used those internal political issues. I want to assure all political forces that are trying to fish in troubled waters during this state of emergency that there will be no tolerance or velvet approach regarding this issue. The Republic of Armenia and our statehood are above all aspirations and ambitions of everyone. This means that our internal political processes—who is to blame, who is responsible—will have their turn. That turn will come, and if necessary, this government will go, a new government will be elected. However, we cannot allow any attempts at a coup,” Avinyan said in an interview with Public Television.
When questioned about the possibility of a coup, Avinyan responded, “I have heard such a threat at the level of calls, but I want to assure that such attempts will be firmly suppressed.”
