Aliyev Makes a Mockery of Himself on BBC

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev no longer misses any opportunity to undermine his own credibility. This time, he was ridiculed on the BBC, not hesitating to spread falsehoods on an international media platform.

He began to label misinformation not only regarding the facts presented by the Armenian side but also the detailed testimonies documented by the BBC correspondent in Stepanakert and the organization Human Rights Watch, which state that the Azerbaijani side is targeting the peaceful population of Artsakh using cluster munitions and other types of weapons.

According to Armenpress, in an interview with the BBC, Aliyev dismissed the correspondent's statements as misinformation. When the journalist pointed out that the BBC correspondent based in Stepanakert had recorded that the local civilian population had been targeted, along with civilian settlements and infrastructure, Aliyev expressed doubt over that testimony.

“I doubt that testimony. It may be fake information,” Aliyev stated.

In response to the next observation that the Azerbaijani side had used cluster munitions against the population of Artsakh, with evidence, photos, and videos all corroborated in detail by Human Rights Watch, the President of Azerbaijan reiterated that all those claims are false.

“We did not use them, that is another piece of fake information,” he said. When asked if everything is fake information, he replied, “Yes, why not...?”

Discussing the targeting of the Ghazanchetsots Church in Shushi, Aliyev claimed it could be an error on the part of their artillery. When the journalist inquired whether it was possible to make a mistake twice in one day, Aliyev answered affirmatively.
