Zakir Hasanov and 7 Generals Arrested at Turkey's Request
Reports are circulating online that Azerbaijan's Minister of Defense Zakir Hasanov has been removed from his position by high-ranking Turkish military officials due to his close ties with Russian generals.
This news was followed by information that generals in Baku were preparing to incite unrest within the Ministry of Defense after being dismissed from their posts by the Turks.
According to Azerbaijani blogger Gabil Mamadov, who resides in Germany, at the request of Turkey's military and political leadership, seven Azerbaijani generals, led by Minister of Defense Zakir Hasanov, have been detained and taken to Turkey. They are accused of treason, as reported by infoteka24.ru.
According to the source, by neutralizing the “rebels,” Turkey aims to exert control over Azerbaijan's armed forces. The source also recalls that earlier, Colonel-General Najmeddin Sadikov was removed from the position of Chief of the General Staff for expressing dissatisfaction with the involvement of Turkish military personnel in the Azerbaijani armed forces.
