A Large Segment of the Public Is Not Aware of Current Realities: Abrahamyan

“One to two weeks before the war, when it was clear to me that there was a risk of military operations resuming— all the signs were there—I had suggested in a post or article to the authorities to start a dialogue with various groups, political and social figures in the public,” wrote Tigran Abrahamyan, former advisor to the President of Artsakh, on his Facebook page.

“The goal was to provide accessible and adequate information regarding the current military-political situation to a broad segment of the public, and, why not, to prepare the public for war. I also referred to the need for intensive communication with the public, direct dialogue even in the early days of the war. This dialogue is still relevant today. A significant portion of our public is not aware of the current realities.

I am not talking about having 100% control over information, nor am I discussing the distinctions between good and bad, positive and negative; rather, I am speaking about having a general understanding of the situation. This can lead to major problems both in terms of various developing events and in subsequent political processes. The authorities themselves must choose how to address the gaps and issues I have mentioned, what channels, methods, and ways they use to resolve them, but the fact is that there is much to be done in this direction. Not everything should be left on the shoulders of the armed forces; on the contrary, the burden should be shared by all means,” wrote Abrahamyan.
