Three More Syrian Mercenaries Charged in Armenia

The Investigative Committee of Armenia continues its extensive pre-trial investigation regarding the aggressive war unleashed by the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan along the entire line of contact with the Republic of Artsakh, which includes serious violations of international humanitarian law during international terrorism and armed conflicts, issuing criminal orders during armed clashes, and cases of mercenarism.

During the pre-trial investigation, operatives from relevant divisions of the National Security Service of Armenia gathered factual data indicating that three citizens of the Syrian Arab Republic, of Arab ethnicity, were recruited as mercenaries to participate in military operations against the Republics of Artsakh and Armenia orchestrated by the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan.

As a result of extensive investigative and other procedural actions undertaken by the prosecuting authority, decisions were made on November 6, 2020, to charge Abu Steff al-Hindawi, Ahmad al-Tayeb, and Abu Diab Halabi under Article 389 of the RA Criminal Code (international terrorism), part 1, point 1 of Article 34-390 (serious violations of international humanitarian law during armed conflicts), and part 3 of Article 395 (mercenarism).

On the same day, decisions were made to announce them on the wanted list and motions were submitted to the General Jurisdiction Court of Yerevan to apply detention as a preventive measure against them.
