There is a Misunderstanding that US Policy Towards Armenia May Change with a New President, Political Scientist
Political scientist Suren Sargsyan wrote on his Facebook page: “The attitude may change, but the policy will not. Perhaps our leadership will be received at a high level one or two times. However, globally, the US will continue to serve its interests in the region, will not change its stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, and will continue its policy of containment regarding Iran and Russia. It will continue to assess Georgia and Azerbaijan as strategic allies, while considering us as a state with high priority.
There may be a political dialogue initiated with Iran, which could somewhat ease regional tensions, but globally, the Americans will continue to view Iran as a challenge. Regarding Turkey, a tougher rhetoric may prevail, but nothing beyond superficial sanctions will materialize. The Americans see Turkey as the prodigal son who will eventually return.”
