Azerbaijan Must Abandon Its Maximalist Aspirations: Prime Minister

Azerbaijan must abandon its logic of resolving the Karabakh issue through military means. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with The Jerusalem Post, adding that the problem arose precisely because Azerbaijan has continuously developed its approach to solving the issue through military means.

“And when it became clear to Azerbaijan that it could not advance this logic with its own resources, what happened? It turned to Turkey for assistance, which in turn transferred thousands of mercenaries from areas under its control in Syria to Azerbaijan. After that, Turkey, Azerbaijan, mercenaries, and terrorists initiated a joint attack on Nagorno-Karabakh. I describe this to record the complexity of the situation. Because, as we see, there is not a single subject involved in the process. And this already complicates the situation significantly. Because, due to all this, in my opinion, the issue has gone beyond the logic of just the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

Because, I remind you again, there are mercenaries involved, whose presence in the region poses a threat not only to Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia but also Iran has declared that it perceives this as a threat, and Russia has announced that it regards this as a threat. And let me tell you, in my opinion, a number of recent events in Europe and around the world, even indirectly, are connected to the developments happening in Nagorno-Karabakh and Turkey's unconstructive positions.

As for your question, the short answer is the following: Azerbaijan must abandon its maximalist aspirations and must renounce its declared policy of subjecting the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh to genocide,” stated Nikol Pashinyan.
