Armenian Government Submits Additional Evidence to ECHR and Requests Measures Against Azerbaijan

The Armenian government has submitted additional evidence to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding gross violations of human rights by Azerbaijani forces, according to a statement from the office of the Armenian representative at the ECHR.

“The government has expressed its willingness to uphold the humanitarian ceasefire agreement reached between the sides in October for the purpose of exchanging prisoners of war and remains. Considering the threat to the lives of prisoners of war, the government has requested the European Court to impose the following measures against the Azerbaijani government as a high contracting party to the Convention:

  1. Based on the obligations established by the Convention, as well as by the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949, and all applicable rules of international humanitarian law, refrain from:
    • A. Subjecting prisoners of war and civilians under Azerbaijani control to degrading treatment, torture, arbitrary execution, and other prohibited conduct;
    • B. Distorting the bodies of Armenian soldiers.
  2. Provide information on the number of prisoners of war, their names, and details of those currently detained, as well as their medical condition and the examination conducted by medical personnel.

This statement highlights the urgent need for accountability and compliance with international standards in the treatment of captured individuals.
