Russia Will Fulfill Its Security Obligations to Armenia, Says PM
The Russian authorities and President Putin have repeatedly stated that, if necessary, Russia will fulfill its security obligations towards the Republic of Armenia. This was noted by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with Al Jazeera.
Pashinyan deemed it absurd to believe that the relationship with Russia, which was previously closer and allied with Armenia, has weakened since he came to power. He stated, “Russia has remained Armenia’s strategic ally, just as it was before. Regarding being Armenia's strategic ally, Russia has no neutrality. The Russian authorities and President Putin have repeatedly stated that, if necessary, Russia will fulfill its security obligations towards the Republic of Armenia,” emphasized the Armenian Prime Minister.
He clarified that Russia is a co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group, a mediating country, and by virtue of its status, must maintain certain neutrality. “Since the establishment of the Minsk Group, Russia has been a co-chairing country, a mediating country, and thus has had an obligation to maintain certain neutrality. And until now, this status has not changed,” underscored Prime Minister Pashinyan.
