Russia Will Provide Necessary Assistance to Yerevan if Military Actions Move to Armenian Territory, Russian MFA

The Russian Foreign Ministry has responded to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's request addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In connection with Prime Minister Pashinyan's request to initiate consultations on the type and volume of assistance that the Russian Federation could provide to the Republic of Armenia to ensure its security, we reaffirm the Russian Federation's obligations towards the Republic of Armenia in the context of allied cooperation, including under the Friendship Treaty on Cooperation and Mutual Assistance signed between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia on August 29, 1997.

Some provisions of that treaty stipulate specific actions in the event of military threats or aggression against the territories of the parties involved.

According to the treaty, Russia will provide all necessary assistance to Yerevan if military actions move directly into Armenian territory.
