Tankian on the Possibility of Canada's Recognition of Artsakh's Independence

World-renowned System of a Down lead vocalist Serj Tankian posted on his Facebook page an article from CBC, which notably states: "Conservative Senator Leo Housakos is urging Canada to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh and 'immediately condemn the Azerbaijani-Turkish joint aggression' against the predominantly Armenian region in the South Caucasus.

On Tuesday, Housakos introduced a motion in the Senate calling on the federal government to 'acknowledge the inalienable right of the Republic of Artsakh to self-determination and recognize its independence in light of escalating tensions and the ongoing targeting of innocent Armenian civilians.' He also called on Ottawa to 'maintain a permanent ban on arms exports to Turkey.' If the motion is adopted, it would be a significant symbolic victory for the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh," Tankian wrote.
