All Newly Appointed Deputy Governors Are Military Figures

Today, new deputy governors were appointed in seven regions of Armenia by the decree of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Notably, all of these deputy governors are military figures.

Norik Amirkhanyan has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of Ararat. He was the chief of staff of the first army corps.

Razmik Petrosyan has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of Aragatsotn, having been the commander of the "Aparan" detachment during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. He later also held the position of mayor of Aparan. After the Azerbaijani aggression against Artsakh on September 27, Petrosyan went to Artsakh.

Henrik Muradyan has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of Gegharkunik. He is a former military commissioner with the rank of Major General and has held other command positions in the Ministry of Defense. Muradyan formed and participated in the defense of Armenian villages in Vardenis during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.

Arthur Hovakimyan has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of Tavush. He is a colonel and was the military commissioner of Ijevan for many years.

Melikset Poghosyan has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of Syunik. He has served as the military commissioner of Goris, holding the military rank of colonel. During the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, Poghosyan was the commander of the "Melik Barkhudar" detachment.

Major General Aleksan Aleksanyan has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of Armavir. Aleksanyan has held high positions in the Ministry of Defense for a long time, including heading the military personnel department and later the psychological support department of the armed forces.

In Vayots Dzor, Araik Muradyan has been appointed as deputy governor (Makhno). He has served as the military commissioner of Ararat and holds the rank of colonel. During the First War, Muradyan participated in the defense of the borders of Goris, Vayk, and Sisian.

The appointment of the new deputy governors aligns with the logic of the legal regulations and goals for the formation of territorial defense forces in Armenia. Accordingly, the commander of the territorial defense unit being formed in each region must become the deputy governor, while in Yerevan, they will be the deputy mayor.

Deputy governors have not yet been appointed in Lori, Shirak, and Kotayk regions, and the Yerevan council has not yet convened a meeting regarding the appointment of a new deputy mayor.
