European Court Demands Azerbaijan Provide Information on 5 Armenian Prisoners by November 3

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has demanded that the Azerbaijani government provide documented information regarding the whereabouts, conditions of detention, and medical care of five more Armenian servicemen who have been taken captive. This was reported by human rights defenders Artak Zeynalanyan and Siranush Sahakyan.

According to the defenders, the court has set a deadline for the provision of the requested information by November 3.

“A case has been submitted to the European Court for the protection of the rights of five military servicemen who were captured during the large-scale war initiated by Azerbaijan against Artsakh on the morning of September 27, 2020. The individuals currently in captivity are: Samvel Asatryan, Albert Mikaelyan, Edik Tonoyan, Valeri Hayrapetyan, and Arsen Karapetyan,” they noted, adding that based on videos disseminated by Azerbaijani media, the mentioned individuals have been identified, and applications have been submitted to the European Court on behalf of their family members claiming urgent measures to protect their rights to life and protection against inhuman treatment.
