Russian Company Withdraws from Nuclear Power Plant Project in Turkey

The Russian company "Inter RAO" may withdraw from the construction project of the "Akkuyu" nuclear power plant in Turkey.

The project for the construction of the Akkuyu NPP is being implemented by "Akkuyu Nuclear" based on an intergovernmental agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in 2010.

On October 26, the board of directors of "Inter RAO" approved the withdrawal from participation in "Akkuyu Nuclear", which is part of "Rosatom" and carries out the project for the construction of Turkey's first NPP. This was stated in the company's press release.

The shareholders of "Akkuyu Nuclear" include "Rosatom Overseas" (75%), "Atomstroyexport" (2.3%), "Inter RAO" (0.8%), "Rosenergoatom" Concern (22%), "Atomtechenergo" (0.025%), and "Atomenergomont" (0.025%).

The project for the construction of Turkey's first nuclear power plant, the Akkuyu NPP, is being carried out by "Akkuyu Nuclear" based on the intergovernmental agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in May 2010. After the completion of the construction of the Akkuyu NPP, the plant will have a capacity of 4800 MW and will produce about 35 billion kWh of electricity annually.

The commissioning of the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP is scheduled for 2023.
