The Human Rights Defender of Armenia has presented specific examples of Azerbaijani atrocities to a delegation of French parliamentarians.

Arman Tatoyan, Armenia's Human Rights Defender, met today with the parliamentary delegation from France, which included current and former lawmakers and journalists. Tatoyan outlined the actions conducted by Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, which are directed against peaceful residents and non-military infrastructure.

He noted that there have been 2 fatalities and 2 injuries among the Armenian population, as well as damaged homes. According to the data from the Artsakh Human Rights Defender, there are at least 39 fatalities and 120 injuries in Artsakh.

“Targeting civilian populations and employing prohibited weapons against them, the involvement of mercenary terrorists, the inhumane treatment of Armenian prisoners of war by Azerbaijani armed forces, and anti-Armenian sentiments all indicate an agenda aimed at ethnic cleansing in Artsakh through terrorist methods,” said the Human Rights Defender, accompanying his statements with concrete evidence.

Tatoyan also addressed the targeting of journalists conducting professional activities in Artsakh, describing this behavior by the Azerbaijani side as a crime against freedom of speech and a gross violation of international law.

The Human Rights Defender urged the French parliamentary delegation to visit Artsakh personally to meet with the Artsakh Human Rights Defender and civil society, and to document the destruction and atrocities committed by Azerbaijani armed forces on the ground.
