US Diplomatic Mission in Turkey Warns of Terror Threats
The US diplomatic mission in Turkey has warned American citizens about potential terrorist attacks in Istanbul and other parts of the country, as reported by Voice of America. In the warning, the mission stated that it has received credible information regarding potential terrorist attacks in Istanbul and the likelihood of kidnapping American and other foreign nationals, including threats directed against the US Consulate General.
The diplomatic mission urged Americans to exercise caution in large office buildings, shopping centers, and other locations where US citizens and other foreigners may gather. The message also indicated that visa and other services provided to Americans in Turkey by the mission have been suspended.
The US State Department announced that the warning was based on ongoing assessments of security conditions in the country, but did not elaborate on the details.
This warning follows recent US airstrikes targeting Al-Qaeda forces in Syria, including locations where senior leaders of the terrorist group were reportedly gathering. The US Central Command has warned that "Al-Qaeda" is exploiting instability in northwestern Syria to establish safe havens that allow it to coordinate the group’s operations.
