Russian Tanker Owned by Azerbaijani Oligarch Explodes in the Sea of Azov: Media

The Russian oil tanker "General Hazi Aslanov," which experienced explosions in the Sea of Azov, has been found to be operational and in good condition, reported Oleg Volinkin, head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

“According to our information, the tanker, which has undergone repairs, has been in good condition. The cause of the explosions will be determined by a commission,” Volinkin stated.

Rescue crews are conducting investigations at the explosion site to assess the likelihood of an oil and other fuel leakage.

It is noteworthy that Russian media reported two explosions aboard the "General Hazi Aslanov" tanker in the Sea of Azov. As conveyed by RIA Novosti, six crew members were successfully rescued, while three others ended up in the sea.

According to sources from emergency services, there were a total of 13 people on board the tanker. Reports indicated that the explosions followed a fire that occurred in the water area of the Sea of Azov, during which fuel ignited. It was previously assumed that a malfunction of safety equipment could have been the cause of the explosion.

The owner of the vessel is the Turkish Palmali Shipping Agency, owned by Azerbaijani oligarch Mubariz Mansimov. The tanker was built in Turkey in 2005 and sails under the flag of Russia. Its main port of operation is Taganrog.
