A Civil Committee for the Recognition of Artsakh's Independence to be Established in Poland in the Coming Days
Polish politician Tomasz Lech Buczek has made the following statement addressing the President of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan.
“Dear Mr. President,
“Peace is a precious and desired thing. Our blood-soaked generation, marked by wars, undoubtedly deserves peace. But peace, like almost everything in this world, has its price—high, yet measurable. Here in Poland, we do not understand the concept of peace at any price. In the lives of people, nations, and states, there is only one invaluable thing, and that is honor.”
These are the words of the Republic of Poland's Foreign Minister Józef Beck, spoken in the Sejm on May 5, 1939, just months before the outbreak of World War II. These words, said long ago, are still highly relevant today. I received the news with great horror on September 27 of this year, when the peaceful Republic of Artsakh came under attack by the armed forces of Azerbaijan. I then thought of my family, of my great-grandfather and grandfather, and all those who have survived the hell of war—pain, suffering, and separation.
In consideration of the common good of all people, the goodness of the world, I heard about the honorable President’s call for actions aimed at recognizing that beautiful piece of Armenian land—Artsakh's independence, which has been liberated over 2000 years by the blood and tears of the Armenian people.
Therefore, I would like to announce on behalf of myself and the committee members that a CIVIL COMMITTEE FOR THE RECOGNITION OF ARTSAKH INDEPENDENCE will be established in Poland in the coming days. The committee will include peace-loving citizens of the Republic of Poland. The committee will also serve as a symbol of our unity in the face of the tragedy of our times—war.
The purposes of the committee are:
- To protect the rights and dignity of the Armenian people.
- To take actions towards ending the conflict in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
- To carry out informational actions related to the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
- To undertake actions aimed at recognizing the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) as an Independent State.
- To provide assistance to the wounded and refugees during the conflict in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
The committee will be formed in the coming days. Let us recognize Artsakh. You are NOT ALONE.”
