Erdogan Claims Macron Needs 'Mental Health Treatment'
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has made unacceptable statements towards French President Emmanuel Macron and must change his dangerous political course. This was stated by the Elysee Palace on Saturday in response to Erdogan's harsh reaction to the fight against radical Islam in France, as reported by TASS.
"President Erdogan's words are unacceptable. Outrage and rudeness are not methods. We call on Erdogan to change his political direction, as it is dangerous in all aspects," said a spokesperson for the French presidency, as quoted by France-Presse.
The spokesperson clarified that the Elysee Palace does not intend to start an "unproductive debate," despite stating it will not tolerate insults. The administration official disclosed that France is recalling its ambassador from Ankara for consultations in connection with statements made by the Turkish president.
Erdogan claimed on Saturday that Macron needs "mental health treatment." He responded in this way to Macron's comments about Islam. According to Erdogan, "expressing hostility towards Islam is an expression of hostility towards Turkey" and that "such violations against Muslims indicate that European fascism is moving to a new level."
