Mnasakanyan-Pompeo Meeting Reaffirms Implementation of Agreements on Immediate Ceasefire in Artsakh
On October 23, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnasakanyan, during a working visit to the United States, met with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. This was reported on Facebook by the spokesperson for the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Anna Naghdalyan.
“The discussion focused on the situation created by Azerbaijan's large-scale aggression in Artsakh. Minister Mnasakanyan informed Secretary Pompeo about the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces during military operations, which are manifested in the deliberate targeting of the civilian population and infrastructure in Artsakh, degrading treatment of civilians and prisoners of war, as well as beheadings and murders,” Naghdalyan wrote.
Secretary Pompeo expressed condolences on behalf of the U.S. side regarding the victims. The Armenian Foreign Minister also emphasized that this aggression by Azerbaijan is occurring with the direct involvement of Turkey, manifested through direct military-technical support and the importation of armed terrorists into the region by Turkey. According to Minister Mnasakanyan, Azerbaijan's decision to become an area influenced by Turkey and a hub of international terrorism poses a serious threat to regional security.
Mnasakanyan pointed out that Azerbaijan's violation of ceasefire agreements and the continuation of military operations against the people of Artsakh once again demonstrate Azerbaijan's aim to resolve the issue through military means. Both sides reaffirmed the necessity of implementing the agreements reached on an immediate ceasefire in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, as well as continuing the peace process within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group,” Naghdalyan wrote.
