Under the Influence of Fear: NSS Confirms the Abduction of Azniv Baghdasaryan in Controversial Video

The National Security Service (NSS) has provided some details about the abducted woman, Azniv Baghdasaryan, to Sputnik Armenia. Armenian citizen Azniv Baghdasaryan was abducted by Azerbaijanis on October 7.

In response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia, the NSS stated that on October 7, a video surfaced on Azerbaijani media showing Azerbaijani soldiers allegedly welcoming Azniv Baghdasaryan, who was left in one of the villages of Artsakh. The video, presented by Azerbaijanis, was seemingly staged and caused a significant uproar on social media, as the woman was seen saying to the Azerbaijanis, “Welcome to your home.” Following this, rumors circulated that Azniv Baghdasaryan was not Armenian, and that she had appeared in Azerbaijani news even in 2019.

According to the NSS report, “During an interview with the Azerbaijani website az.sputniknews.ru after her abduction on October 7, under the influence of fear, the woman stated that she had been in an unconscious state for three days. After that, allegedly, Azerbaijani soldiers discovered her and claimed to have saved her life.”

Zara Amatuni, head of communication and prevention programs at the Armenian office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), also informed Sputnik Armenia that representatives of the ICRC delegation visited Azniv Baghdasaryan in Azerbaijan.

“ICRC representatives met with her and assessed the conditions of her detention, her treatment, and provided the opportunity to contact her family members,” Amatuni said.
