Turkey Must Withdraw from the Conflict, Says Sargsyan to EU Council President
During a working visit to Brussels, Armenian President Armen Sargsyan met with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, on October 21. This was reported by the Public Relations Department of the Office of the President of Armenia.
President Sargsyan extensively addressed the large-scale military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the Republic of Artsakh since September 27, including Turkey's involvement and military-political support.
“On September 27, Azerbaijan decided to abandon the peace negotiation process and unleashed war, while Turkey is providing it with full political, diplomatic, and military support,” noted President Sargsyan.
“Violence in Nagorno-Karabakh must cease,” said European Council President Charles Michel. He expressed interest in the regional developments occurring in the context of the conflict.
The President of Armenia presented the situation in detail, pointing out that Turkey's policy is destabilizing in the region and poses a serious threat to the stability and security of the area.
The interlocutors expressed deep concern regarding the ongoing military operations, which could lead to a significant humanitarian disaster. Charles Michel stated that the truce should be respected and that there should be an unconditional return to the negotiating table.
President Sargsyan emphasized the importance for international partners to fully understand the essence of the conflict and to issue a clear call for the cessation of hostilities. “A ceasefire is an absolute necessity, and Turkey must withdraw from this conflict,” underscored the President of Armenia.
