Resolution on the Independence of Artsakh Presented to the House of Representatives

A resolution on the independence of Artsakh has been presented to the House of Representatives, authored by member Grace Napolitano. The US Congresswoman has called for the official recognition of the independence of the Republic of Artsakh by the United States.

“The history of Artsakh is very similar to the history of America—a victory of a free people over foreign dominance. The citizens of that republic embody the words of our Declaration of Independence, which is established for Americans and the entire world—that the power of government is derived from the people.

Based on documents, we can assert the historical fact that Artsakh has been an integral part of Armenia for millennia, as well as its legal standing as an independent republic. However, today it is most important to note that, in the face of rockets and bombs from Azerbaijan, Turkey, and their ally, the Islamic State, freedom is not just about covering history or applying the laws. Freedom is the only response for the survival of Artsakh. Separation for the sake of salvation is grounded in history, laws, and survival. There is no turning back. Artsakh must not return to being part of Azerbaijan. The path forward is through freedom. That is why I call for the US to officially recognize the independence of the Republic of Artsakh,” the resolution states.
