Representatives of the Armenian Community in Canada Call on Justin Trudeau to Recognize Artsakh
Canadian Armenian organizations, including the Armenian Community Council of Quebec, the United Armenian Committee of British Columbia, and the Armenian United Council of Ontario, have addressed a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. This was reported by Horizon Weekly.
“Dear Prime Minister, the Armenian community in Canada urges the government to condemn the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia and Artsakh and to play a leading role in establishing long-term peace and stability in the region. The most concerning issue is that Azerbaijan, encouraged by the silence of the international community, continues to deliberately target civilians and infrastructure far from the line of contact, especially in the capital city of Stepanakert. These attacks are war crimes and violate fundamental principles of international law. Azerbaijan is also utilizing foreign jihadist mercenaries, recruited by Turkey, further destabilizing the situation in the region.
Welcoming the decisive actions taken by Ottawa, we call on the Canadian government to recognize the independence of the Republic of Artsakh, reaffirming the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination and to live in peace. We call for the proper condemnation of the unprovoked aggression by Azerbaijan and Turkey,” the letter states.
