We Have Wonderful Young People Who Volunteer to Protect Their Families, Tankian
World-renowned musician and lead vocalist of the rock band System Of A Down, Serj Tankian, has given an interview to the esteemed American publication Forbes, addressing the recent escalation of tensions in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression.
"Every day I wake up and pray for the bombings to stop, every day," says the 53-year-old Tankian.
To the question of what feelings he experiences during these days, Serj Tankian replied: "From time to time, I feel grief, pride, and anger. I go through a range of emotions because Armenia is dealing with aggression and injustice not only from Azerbaijan but also from Turkey against the Armenian people. For us, this is a fight for existence."
The rock band’s vocalist noted that although he had previously given an interview to a German media outlet without expressing his thoughts, he has reflected on one thing: "How would Israelis feel if Germany never recognized the Holocaust and started bombing Israel right now? That’s what we are feeling now," said Serj Tankian.
Tankian stated that what is happening in Artsakh is a gross violation of human rights and a war crime. "I want people to know that we have wonderful young people who volunteer to protect their families. Sanctions need to be implemented. We need support. It is incredibly important for the recognition of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, so that they can have legal protection from the international community and organizations," added the world-famous musician.
