Greece’s Embassy in Azerbaijan Receives Security Threats
The Greek embassy in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, has been receiving security threats, while the Azerbaijani government refuses to take them seriously, writes Paul Antonopoulos, a columnist for Greek City Times.
“Everything is under control, meanwhile there are issues related to the planned 'support' of the Greek diplomatic mission being provided at an international level,” the author writes.
“Azerbaijan is receiving political and military support from Turkey, Greece's regional rival, during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Greece has expressed its support for Armenia and is currently entangled in a territorial dispute with Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean,” Antonopoulos continues.
He notes that the security situation at the Greek embassy deteriorated after the government recalled Ambassador Konstantinos Piperigos, who had assumed office on September 2.
