Aliyev's Operation to 'Liberate Karabakh' Significantly Fails Due to Mercenaries, Lapshin

Israeli blogger Alexander Lapshin discussed on his Facebook page the fact of terrorists fighting on the Azerbaijani side during the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, noting that the massive use of Syrian and Afghan Islamists is a direct road to the failure of the so-called 'liberation of Karabakh' plan.

“Does Ilham Aliyev not understand that the 'one-time-use fighters' are not the well-known French foreign legion for him? For over a century, the French have accepted foreigners into the 'foreign legion' for military service, but this was preceded by the strictest selection, several years of checks and retraining, and only then would a foreigner be entrusted to participate in specific operations,” the blogger stated.

According to Lapshin, the idea initially seemed sensible because by using mercenaries, the losses of his own country could be minimized, thus avoiding public outrage when several thousand families would receive the bodies of their sons. In the case of mercenaries, such issues simply could not arise.

“The problem is that Aliyev has brought into Azerbaijan so-called stateless terrorists, among whom, as could be expected, there is a significant leak of information not only to Russian special services but also to American and Iranian ones,” the Israeli blogger emphasized, adding that many Syrian agents are assisting the Armenian side by providing crucial information, which explains the enormous losses on the Azerbaijani side, both in terms of manpower and military equipment.

“Of course, Baku does not trust the Syrians at all and tries to isolate the mercenaries from the army conducting active military operations as much as possible, but this is very difficult. They need to be supplied with weapons, brought to positions, fed, meet with them and explain tasks. Communication with Azerbaijanis is unavoidable, and the presence of modern technical means in the hands of some of these not-so-idiotic mercenaries allows us to obtain more information about the movements of the Azerbaijani army and their intentions than we could get from illiterate mercenaries. Today we can say that Aliyev significantly failed his operation to 'liberate Karabakh' because of the mercenaries,” concluded Lapshin.
