Azerbaijan's Military Crimes Are the Consequence of Impunity for Past Offenses, Says Human Rights Defender
The Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, Artak Beglaryan, considers the inhumane treatment of Armenian prisoners of war and the bodies of deceased soldiers by Azerbaijanis to be a consequence of impunity for crimes committed in the past.
According to Armenpress, Beglaryan stated this during a Facebook press conference on October 12. He remarked, “There are cases of inhumane treatment towards both prisoners of war and the bodies of deceased soldiers. This is a brutal, inhumane phenomenon, caused by a pronounced policy of hatred towards Armenians for decades, as well as by the impunity of similar crimes during the April 2016 War, supported by the Azerbaijani authorities. It is absurd that the international community does not respond rapidly and firmly to this; a targeted response is necessary, including sanctions against the Azerbaijani authorities.”
