Entry of Turkish Pomegranates into the Russian Federation Banned

During inspection at the Tuapse seaport, specialists from the Southern Interregional Directorate of Rosselkhoznadzor found a quarantine pest in two batches of pomegranates arriving from Turkey: the Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata (Wied.)). The total weight of the two batches of fruit is 21,808 tons.

The presence of this pest in the pomegranate batch was confirmed by the quarantine phytosanitary condition reports from the Novorossiysk branch. Consequently, the import of the pomegranate batch into the territory of the Russian Federation has been banned.

It should be noted that Rosselkhoznadzor has also prohibited the entry of 68 tons of Turkish mandarins into the Russian ports of Novorossiysk and Tuapse. This was reported by PolitNavigator, citing a statement from the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor's Southern Interregional Directorate. According to the official version, laboratory tests revealed that the 68.87 tons of fresh Turkish mandarins contained Mediterranean fruit flies, leading to the ban on the import of this batch into Russia. These mandarins were intended for sale in Krasnodar, Moscow, and Novorossiysk.
