The Situation in Azerbaijan is Serious and Tense, Numerous Protests Occur, Especially in Front of Military Commissions

The situation in Azerbaijan is quite serious and tense. The Azerbaijani authorities are extremely concerned about the growing anti-government sentiments among the population. Could the current situation lead to developments that awaken the national consciousness of Azerbaijan’s indigenous peoples?

In an interview with a correspondent from the newspaper ‘Hayastani Hanrapetutyun’, Garnik Asatryan, the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Armenian-Russian University, said that prior to the start of the war, Azerbaijan made significant efforts to clear the general field and, in this sense, the authorities succeeded in eliminating individuals who could influence further developments.

“However, this does not mean that there is no movement, that there are no grievances, especially in Talysh and Lezgian inhabited areas. Even with a small number of participants, many protests are occurring, especially in front of military commissions,” Asatryan noted.

In his assessment, terrorists have caused more harm to Azerbaijan than benefit, both during the military operations and in other aspects.
