Interstate Aviation Committee Expresses Concern Over Flight Safety Due to Conflict in Artsakh

The Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) has expressed concern regarding the safety of civil aircraft flying over the conflict zone in Nagorno-Karabakh and has proposed additional measures to be taken. This was reported on Wednesday on the IAC's website.

"The IAC suggests that a range of measures aimed at ensuring the unconditional compliance with international legal norms and the prevention of the targeting of civil aircraft by air defense systems, as well as preventing strikes on civilian structures and airports with missiles and other weapons be undertaken as soon as possible, considering the tactical and technical characteristics of weapons in the conflict zone," the statement reads.

The Committee also advises airlines operating flights over the South Caucasus to assess the risk factors ensuring the safety of civil aircraft in conflict areas. Furthermore, it is necessary to ensure systematic coordination and cooperation with military authorities.
