Georgia Denies Military Cargo Transfers to Armenia and Azerbaijan Under the Guise of Civilian Flights
The transit of military cargo through Georgia to Armenia and Azerbaijan is prohibited, with the airspace only open for humanitarian and commercial flights. This was announced by Georgia's Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsali, as reported by newsgeorgia.ge.
“We would like to reiterate that there is no military transit through Georgian territory. According to the documents that Georgia possesses, the flights that operate in Georgia's airspace are of a purely humanitarian and civilian nature and fully comply with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization,” he stated.
The official described as unfounded reports in some media suggesting that military cargo is being transported under the guise of civilian flights through Georgian territory. He also added that Georgia continues to fulfill its international obligations regarding the release of humanitarian cargo through the air corridor, but if any carrier abuses this, Georgia's response will be appropriate and the violator will be held accountable according to international law.
