Azerbaijan Does Not Care About Its Soldiers' Corpses, Handing Them Over to Parents Will Worsen the Situation Inside the Country, Angela Elibegova
Azerbaijan is violating the humanitarian ceasefire because they do not need their soldiers' corpses. People will start asking uncomfortable questions to the Azerbaijani authorities, and it will be easier to declare the casualties as missing or prisoners. This was stated by Azerbaijani affairs expert Angela Elibegova in an interview with Tert.am.
“It was clear from the beginning that Azerbaijan would not maintain the ceasefire, as it should have a humanitarian nature to allow both sides to retrieve the bodies from the battlefield. Azerbaijan does not need these bodies, because it is easier to declare them missing or prisoners so that a wave of protests doesn’t rise among parents inside Azerbaijan. Therefore, it is easier not to organize this retrieval process and leave their military personnel and terrorists' corpses, which nobody needs anyway,” she noted.
According to the expert, the second reason for Azerbaijan's violation of the ceasefire agreement was to carry out new attacks and provocations: “Because when Ilham Aliyev liberates virtual territories in advance, he demands that his army, at the expense of soldiers' lives, somehow strengthens this virtual victory. When this does not happen in any way, it becomes an excuse for more intense attacks,” said Angela Elibegova.
By violating the agreement reached after 11 hours of negotiations mediated by Russia in Moscow, Azerbaijan effectively sent a signal to Russia that they do not comply and are not a reliable partner in the negotiation process. According to her, Russia should draw conclusions regarding Azerbaijan's actions.
