Azerbaijan Violates Ceasefire Agreement, Says Armenian Foreign Ministry

The Armenian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement regarding Azerbaijan's actions in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

“Based on the call of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a joint statement was adopted during the consultations held in Moscow on October 9, between Armenia's Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, and Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. In this statement, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to ceasefire for humanitarian purposes from 12:00 on October 10, 2020, for the exchange of prisoners of war and other detained individuals, as well as the bodies of the deceased, under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross and in accordance with its standards.

However, Azerbaijan continued military operations in various parts of the front, violating its own commitments. Strikes were carried out on the settlements in the Syunik region of the Republic of Armenia. The provocative actions of the Azerbaijani army are accompanied by political statements that can only be interpreted as Azerbaijan's failure to uphold the ceasefire agreement.

With the aim of concealing or perhaps justifying this behavior, the Azerbaijani side has resorted to the spread of disinformation, making unfounded accusations that the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia are targeting civilian settlements and the front line.

We strongly condemn Azerbaijan's actions aimed at undermining the reached agreements on a ceasefire and warn that the leadership of Azerbaijan, operating under the auspices of Turkey, bears full responsibility for the consequences of the situation,” the statement said.
