Call to Armenia and Azerbaijan: Ensure Journalists' Safety in Nagorno-Karabakh

The authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan must ensure the safety of journalists covering the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh and allow them to report freely on the events, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) stated today.

“The warring parties in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone must respect the right of journalists to report freely and take all necessary measures to ensure their safety,” said Gulmouza Said, coordinator of the CPJ program for Europe and Central Asia.

“Both Azerbaijan and Armenia should conduct an investigation into the recent attack that left two journalists injured and provide press credentials in a free and impartial manner.”

It is worth noting that on October 8, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces shelled the Ghazanchetsots Church in Shushi. During the second shelling, foreign journalists were present in the church. One of the injured journalists is in serious condition.
