39 Cases of Acute Intestinal Infection Registered in Lori Province

On October 6, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Armenia (NCDC) reported that six citizens from the village of Katnarat in the Tashir region were hospitalized at the Stepanavan Medical Center with acute intestinal infection, showing symptoms of general weakness, diarrhea, and high fever (38°C).

This information was provided by the Ministry of Health. As a result of epidemiological research conducted from October 6 to 8, an additional 33 cases were identified, all from the same neighborhood and having used water from the same surface source.

As of October 8, at 11:00 AM, the total number of cases has reached 39, with 32 patients hospitalized in Stepanavan and 7 in Vanadzor medical centers. All patients’ health conditions are assessed as moderate.

Samples have been taken for microbiological analysis from both the patients and the water from the surface source. According to the microbiological laboratory tests of samples taken from the first day's six patients, pathogens of dysentery were found in five of them. Other tests are ongoing.

It should be noted that a meeting was held at the provincial governor's office, resulting in the closure of the surface source, as well as the initiation of cleaning and disinfection work on the surface water supply. At the same time, efforts have been made to urge the population to seek medical assistance promptly in case of symptoms of intestinal disease.
