Dutch Parliament Calls on Government to Take Action Against Baku and Ankara

The Dutch Parliament has overwhelmingly adopted a resolution on October 6, calling on the government to take measures against Azerbaijan and Turkey to immediately halt the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The author of the resolution is Martijn van Helvert from the coalition Christian Democratic Appeal party. Below is the full text of the resolution:

"The Parliament, after discussing the issue,
- noting that the conflict around Nagorno-Karabakh is escalating at the borders of Europe,
- recognizing that the EU is conducting negotiations to strengthen partnerships and cooperation,
- acknowledging the increasing number of victims, including among the civilian population,
- noting that Turkey is inciting hostilities on the Azerbaijani side, particularly emphasizing the aggressive rhetoric from Baku and Ankara,
calls on the government to insist at the upcoming EU summit that the conclusions must include the necessity for an immediate ceasefire and the return of the parties to the negotiating table under the auspices of the OSCE.

As part of this call, the Dutch Parliament urges the government to address the countries involved in aggression, considering President Aliyev's publicly aggressive statements. They assert that Azerbaijan bears the greatest responsibility in this matter and that an ultimatum should be presented to them. If necessary, this should have consequences regarding the support outlined within the framework of the EU Eastern Partnership program. They urge Armenia and Azerbaijan to respect international law and, in good faith, negotiate."
