The Nagorno-Karabakh National Assembly Calls on World Parliaments to Recognize the Independence of Artsakh

The National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh has issued a statement urging the parliaments of countries around the world to recognize the independence of the Republic of Artsakh as the most effective means to halt the grave crimes being committed against the peaceful population of Artsakh and to protect their rights. This information was provided by the media and public relations department of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh.

The statement notes: “Considering that on September 27, 2020, the armed forces of Azerbaijan grossly violated the principles of the UN Charter and launched an armed attack against the Republic of Artsakh along the entire border between the Republic of Artsakh and Azerbaijan,

Emphasizing Turkey's direct involvement and its actual command and control of military operations in the armed aggression against the Republic of Artsakh,

Expressing deep concern over the involvement of terrorist organizations in the aggression against the Republic of Artsakh by Turkey and Azerbaijan,

Taking into account that the large-scale military attack against the Republic of Artsakh continues to increase in intensity and is accompanied by violations of the laws and customs applicable in armed conflicts, including the use of indiscriminate and highly destructive weapons against cities and villages, including the capital, Stepanakert, resulting in numerous civilian casualties and injuries,

Welcoming the efforts of the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group— the Russian Federation, the United States of America, and the Republic of France— as well as steps taken by the international community aimed at restoring peace in the region, while also expressing regret that these efforts have not yielded practical results due to the unconstructive positions of Turkey and Azerbaijan,

Emphasizing that Azerbaijan's latest aggression against the Republic of Artsakh should be viewed in the context of widespread and systematic attacks against the peaceful population, carried out by Azerbaijan both in peacetime and wartime since the beginning of the Nagorno-Karabakh liberation movement in 1988,

Recognizing that the continuous violation of the fundamental rights of the citizens of the Republic of Artsakh and the obstruction of their inalienable rights is nothing more than a crime against humanity, the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh strongly condemns the aggression by Turkey and Azerbaijan in collaboration with international terrorist organizations against the Republic of Artsakh and calls on the parliaments of the world's countries to recognize the independence of the Republic of Artsakh as the most effective means to halt the grave crimes being committed against the peaceful population of Artsakh and to protect their rights.”
