Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh on Recognizing the Independence of the Republic of Artsakh
Since September 27, 2020, the armed forces of Azerbaijan, with the support of Turkey and terrorist organizations from the Middle East, have unleashed an aggressive war against the Republic of Artsakh.
The large-scale armed attack by Azerbaijan on the Republic of Artsakh is accompanied by serious violations of international humanitarian law, as well as the laws and customs applicable in armed conflicts. In particular, Azerbaijani-Turkish armed formations deliberately shell the cities, villages, and civilian objects of Artsakh, aimed at terrorizing and exterminating the peaceful population. As a result of their criminal actions, there have been numerous casualties among the peaceful residents.
We welcome the efforts of the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group and, in general, the international community aimed at the immediate cessation of Azerbaijan's military aggression and the de-escalation of tensions. At the same time, we note that all demands and calls of the international community are arrogantly dismissed by the tripartite coalition of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and terrorist organizations.
We call on the international community to recognize the independence of the Republic of Artsakh to ensure the rights to life and peaceful development of the citizens of Artsakh. Under the current circumstances, international recognition of Artsakh is the only effective mechanism for restoring peace and security in the region.
