Lebanon's Prime Minister Mustafa Adib Resigns
Lebanon is once again without a prime minister. Mustafa Adib, who assumed office on August 31, has announced his resignation. According to Al Arabiya, the politician made this decision due to a political impasse surrounding the formation of a new cabinet. Adib expressed regret that the political factions have been unable to reach an agreement on this matter.
Adib was tasked with forming a new government with the intention of implementing reforms. Before his appointment as prime minister, he served as Lebanon's ambassador in Germany for seven years.
It is worth noting that the previous government resigned on August 10, following days of protests by the population. Citizens took to the streets demanding a change in government, blaming the executive authority's inaction for the explosion at the Beirut port and the accumulating social and economic issues.
The explosion at the Beirut port occurred on August 4, when 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate that had been improperly stored detonated. The tragedy resulted in the deaths of 180 people, thousands were injured, and many homes were destroyed.
