Who Will Replace Gayane Abrahamyan?
Today, Gayane Abrahamyan, a member of the 'My Step' faction, submitted her resignation from her parliamentary mandate. It is important to note that she has one week to retract her application. If she does not withdraw the application, the decision to relinquish her mandate will remain in effect.
This raises the question of who will receive Abrahamyan's mandate. According to the proportional list, the next in line is Karapet Mkhchyan, who can replace Gayane Abrahamyan.
Karapet Mkhchyan has been the head of the Civil Contract Party’s office in Gyumri since 2018 and currently serves as an advisor to the mayor of Gyumri.
In a conversation with ArmDaily.am, Karapet Mkhchyan expressed hope that Gayane Abrahamyan would retract her application within the week. He said, “If I’m not mistaken, the electoral code regulates that the representation of one gender among elected members from the proportional list should not exceed 75 percent dominance, and it seems that, in this case, the next on the list will not be me, but a representative of the female gender.”
When asked if he is prepared to accept the mandate should that day arise, Mkhchyan replied, “If that day comes, we will decide.”
Later, it was confirmed that the number of women in the faction does not fall below 20 percent, and Karapet Mkhchyan will indeed replace Gayane Abrahamyan.
